The Ladies 1s had a strong start to the season with a 3-1 win against Broxbourne 5s. Excellent defence, lots of possession of the ball and quick legs on the pitch getting the ball into the D many times including more than 5 short corners, meant they dominated the game and had a well deserved win. Goals from Laura Krantz, Patricia Bruno and Paula Williams.
The Men’s 2s fell to a heavy 6-0 defeat on a difficult afternoon away against Blueharts 7s. The opposition took control early with 3 first half goals and maintained pressure throughout adding a further 3 in the second half. Potters bar showed glimpses on the attack but ultimately were unable to find the back of the net.
Next up, the Men's 1s lost 2-0 against Harpenden 1s who were recently relegated from Div 1S. They took advantage of a slow start from PB in what was otherwise a fairly tight game.
Finally, the Men's 3s Development Team lined up against a Southgate Men's 7s Development side with much more experience than youth compared with the teams we played last year. So much so that we were not able to play the ‘youngster taking first shot on goal at short corners convention’ as in other games or they would have had nobody to take the shots. Despite that, the teams were well-matched and the play balanced. Bar took the lead through a great strike from Gabriel around 10 minutes into the game. Late in the half, Southgate gained a succession of short corners and eventually scored one with a clean strike from their well-skilled centre forward. The second half continued to be a balanced competition and Bar had a number of good chances that fell to Veer-Ram, Cailen and Gabriel, but each time they were thwarted by the keeper or, narrowly missing the target. In a goal mouth scramble 10 minutes before the end, Southgate got their winner after the goal line saves from Mo and Paul were not fully cleared out of danger leading to a 1-2 loss at the final whistle. A draw might have been a better reflection of the game, but it was nevertheless a pleasing and enjoyable performance.
