Opening weekend of the season brings a mixed bag of results:

Only the Men's 1s and 2s had games this opening weekend and the club came away with one win and one loss.

The Men's 1s were at home against Luton Town 1s and the game started strong with Ed Whybrow scoring in the third minute after an assist from Simon Tenwick. Luton then got into their stride and scored a succession of goals with the half-time score being 1-5. Half-time led to a change of goalkeeper, with Jack Goodwin stepping up after Gareth Butcher was injured.

Luton came out strong after the break and dominated the second half. Bar showed some promising passages of play but were unable to convert these attacking opportunities. A second goal for Bar came in the 60th minute from Miles Tomkins with an assist from Jonathan Elms. At the final whistle, the score was 2-11.

The Men’s 2s made a fantastic start to their campaign with a 4–2 victory over Hertford 5s on a sunny afternoon.

The 2s came flying out of the blocks and took the lead after just 10 minutes, as Owain Stedman found the net to put Bar 1–0 ahead.

Bar continued to apply pressure and were rewarded again in the 22nd minute, when Warren Edmondson was present at the back post to finish and double the visitors’ advantage. On the stroke of half-time, some resilient defending from a short corner was quickly turned over into a blistering counter-attack, which included some slick passing between James Shieber and Josh Becker. Shieber subsequently played in Owain Stedman, who struck again in the 32nd minute, giving Potters Bar a commanding 3–0 lead.

Hertford responded quickly after half-time and gave Bar a taste of their own medicine, scoring twice on the counter-attack to bring the hosts back into the contest at 3–2. However, Bar remained composed under pressure. The 2s restored their two-goal advantage in the 62nd minute, with Warren Edmondson grabbing his second goal of the match with a neat finish into the top corner of the net to make it 4–2, securing the victory and three valuable points for Bar.
