Ladies 2nd XI Match Report

Queenswood 1st XI v Potters Bar Ladies 2nd XI

01 October 2011 | by Ruth Spencer

An early start at Queenswood saw Potters Bar 2nd XI firing on all cylinders from the first whistle.

A Potters Bar team comprising a fine balance of youth and experience (!) put pressure on Queenswood throughout the match with deserved success.

Esther was in fantastic form working tirelessly – on a very hot day – making runs across the pitch to create space and goal scoring opportunities for herself and others.Bar made really good use of set pieces to soon establish a lead through Esther’s sharp shooting.

The forwards – Esther, Jenni and Vikki - worked really well together with Vikki repeatedly nicking the ball off the keeper’s pads to set up goal scoring opportunities or score herself – including 2 very impressive reverse stick conversions. Jenni kept putting clever balls to a player or into space to really challenge the opposition and create endless goal scoring opportunities.

Laura and Charlotte ably supported the front players making numerous overlaps on both flanks to great effect.

The Midfield secured the centre of play and the defence remained solid with increasingly less to do as the game progressed.

From 4-0 at half time the team worked equally hard throughout the game to finish deserved winners 9-0. 5 Goals from Esther Strous, 3 from Vicky Watts and 1 from Jenni Harrington. A good all-round team performance.

Thanks to Nikki for the warm-up – just what we needed on the hottest October day on record – and sound tactical advice.
