Mens 1st XI Match Report

Potters Bar Men's 1st XI v Thurrock 1st XI

29 October 2011 | by Rory Brett

The 1's finally got there elusive first win of the season as a result of a very encouraging performance. After going 1-0 down the team rallied to win 4-2 thanks to some great open hockey and utilising some blistering pace up front.

The first half was very similar to the majority of this years games, with Potters Bar having the best of the possession and creating the best chances but failing to finish, which led to Bar conceding from one of the few Thurrock attacks. However as the half came to a close a well worked short corner saw Chris Chittleborough getting a reverse stick touch on a shot at goal to send the ball into the onion bag and draw Bar level before the break.

The second half has been a problem for the 1's this season thus far but after a positive team talk Bar were determined not to let this opportunity for points slip away. From then on it was a case of solid defensive play and rapid counter attacking hockey, which led to Bar taking the lead after a skilful run from Jon Cuff along the baseline, pulling the ball back just in time for Tony Sayers to slot it away. Thurrock broke back with an equaliser shortly after but this did not dishearten the 1's who were now creating chances from all areas of the pitch. Two further goals followed with a fine finish from Andy Stokes and a second for Tony Sayers, both players using there pace to get in behind the Thurrock defence and cause problems.

All in all a very decent performance with lots of positive movement and finally some much needed goals. Even the late card for Chris Chittleborough did not hamper the teams efforts.

Final Score: Potters Bar 4 - 2 Thurrock

Goal Scorers: Tony Sayers (2), Andy Stokes, Chris Chittleborough

Team: The Usual Suspects
