Ladies 2nd XI Match Report

Potters Bar Ladies 2nd XI v Welwyn 2nd XI

15 October 2011 | by Helen Stovin

It was a lovely October morning and Potters Bar Ladies 2nd XI set out for a home match against Welwyn Garden City. Having lost the toss and playing into the sun, the first half began with only 10 players on the pitch for both teams. Bar dominated with good possession and teamwork but were unable to score. The backs held strong preventing any goals from fast Welwyn breaks. There was good teamwork on the right but even though there were several attempts on goal from Ester, Jojo and Katy, Bar failed to convert them.

At halftime Emily Bill arrived making our numbers up to 11 and Sam helping the forward line. Bar lost their way a little bit in the second half with lots of breaks by the opposition but the backs managed to prevent them from scoring. The two Lauras played very well together attacking up the right and there was some good play on the left between Emily, Jojo and Ester and Michelle in the middle. With the clock counting down in the final ten minutes, Welwyn were under more and more pressure and the two Lauras' team work lead to Laura C taking a shot on goal which rebounded allowing Ester to score putting us 1-0 up. We managed to maintain possession for the final minutes of the game and although Bar created more chances were unable to score again. Bar fought hard throughout the match and maintained the majority of possession but unfortunately the score didn’t reflect this.
