Ladies 2nd XI Match Report

Potters Bar Ladies' 2nd XI v Vauxhall Chiltern 2nd XI

21 January 2012 | by Michelle Lewis

Upon arrival to the pitch as the first match of the day myself, Shelley and Helen set out to remove the football goals off the pitch and prepare for a proper playing sport! Our players filtered in and arrived in pairs and after passing the ball a few times and having the weekly catch up we were ready for the game.

There was a minute silence in memory of Nishal Shah before the match and the whole team stood together at this sad time.

The whistle blew and the pushback was ours, Lorraine to Michelle who passes the ball wide to…. The whistle is heard again. Vauxhall Chiltern had failed to remove a ball from their half after training and were in the process of slowly hitting it off.

Restart the game…. Same move, ball received by Katy and the attack begins. The first 10 minutes of play dominated by passing and movement of the Bar players. With nothing to show from it Vauxhall came into the game and pressed higher and higher up the field. Every attack featured all of their players and even Bar’s strikers had to pull back slightly to close down the opposition.

Vauxhall won a few short corners in a row but the bar defence held tight and in the final play of the half came forward and a neat move, which saw Lorraine Pass the ball hard to Michelle, who deflected into the D and was very nicely finished by a turn and shot from Katy.

1-0 at the start of the second half but the game could still easily go either way. Vauxhall with the push back and then brilliant closing down wins the ball for bar and the second half starts the way we meant to go on.

Every attack Vauxhall made was well muted by a strong bar defence and some neat saves by Jenni in Goal. Tho the ball was hit a few times to relieve pressure ending up as a 16yard hit out for the opposition. Pressure on these caused Bar to regain the ball high up the pitch and the pressure mounting on their defence gave us a couple of short corners. Our first short corner injected by Vicky to Kelly ended up in the back of the goal. 2-0 up and hungry for more Vauxhall couldn’t contain the midfield runs and link up play for the Bar attack and conceded a few more shorts. One of which gave another goal to Kelly after a sweet move in the D from Katy and Michelle.

Today’s game finished 3-0 to Bar and a great team performance won the game for us.
