Ladies 1st XI Match Report

Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI v Waltham Forest 2nd XI

03 December 2011 | by Jayne Nevin

This Saturday, Potters Bar kicked off their day with a home match against Waltham Forest.  After a hard fought match last week, the team were ready to hit this game hard and come away with a win.  However, it looked like the opposing team were in the same frame of mind, as in the first 5 minutes they surprised us with a quick goal.  Determined to fight back, Potters Bar quickly gained their composure and enjoyed some excellent passing up both the right and left sides of the pitch.  With the majority of the play at Waltham’s goal end, a penalty corner was won.  A cracking strike from Anna Walker gave Potters Bar their first goal.

Potters Bar then took complete control of the game with solid, confident play in the middle from Anna and Caroline.  More excellent passing led to another 2 goals being scored.  Despite a second goal from Waltham Forest before half time, Bar’s confidence was in no way dented.

After getting some great off pitch advice at half time, Potters Bar were ready to hold on to the win in the second half.  With some brilliant play and communication from Jess Gilbey, Shelley Farmer and Vanessa Porter up the right hand side, the ball was continuously at the opposing team’s end of the pitch.  This constant pressure led to one of the best goals of the season so far by Sarah Jowett.  Who knew you could score by taking a strike off the back line?!  As the second half came to a close, Potters Bar increased their win with another goal.  Throughout the half, the defence held strong and only conceded one goal.

After a thoroughly well fought match, Potters Bar came off the pitch with a deserved win of 6-3.  Special thanks for all the support coming from the sideline throughout the game.

Final Score: Potters Bar 6-3 Waltham Forest

Goal Scorers: Caroline Partridge (2), Anna Walker (2), Sarah Jowett, Caroline Stanners
