Ladies 1st XI Match Report

Waltham Forest 2nd XI v Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI

09 October 2010 | by Caroline Partridge

Potters Bar were missing a number of players for their away game against Waltham Forest 2nd XI and despite starting the game brightly Bar soon found themselves having to defend Forest’s early attacks on goal. However Bar’s rearranged defence of Claire Moore, Sue Richardson and Faye Jowett kept Waltham Forest’s forwards at bay. Bar began to find their rhythm though and were able to push forward with good interlinking team play and Jo Spinks and Anna Walker working hard in central midfield to cut out any through balls and effectively redistributing the ball. Sarah Jowett and Laura Pointing combined well up front with a number of attacks on goal and each were unlucky not to score early on in the game.

Bar’s first goal came following a ball out of defence from Claire, some neat passing play between Anna and Sue before the ball found its way through to Caroline Stanners who was able to run into the circle and beat the goalkeeper with her strike. Bar almost doubled the score soon after following Caroline Partridge’s attacking run but her shot on goal just went wide. As the first half progressed Waltham Forest continued to press forward but when they did break away Bar’s defence remained strong with newcomers Meme Zakiewicz putting in some good intercepting tackles and Emma Wanostrocht, making a number of key saves in goal. Before the first half was out Waltham Forest thought they had equalised but the whistle, for a Potters Bar infringement, was blown just before the ball crossed the goal line and Bar successfully defended the resulting short corner.

Bar continued the second half in an attacking mood and found themselves with plenty of space allowing Vanessa Porter to make a number of good runs up the right wing and for Sue and Caroline Partridge to push up from defence. Potters Bar soon got their second goal of the match with a great ball into the circle which, following a mix up in Forest’s defence, allowed Sarah to nip in front of the goalkeeper and from a tight angle slot the ball into the net. Sarah doubled her tally for the match not long after and with Bar able to defend the short corners Waltham Forest won towards the end of the game, the final score remained at 3-0.

A great team performance ensured Bar kept a clean sheet and they will look to continue with their winning form when they are back at home next week.
