Ladies 3rd XI Match Report
Stevenage 5th XI v Potters Bar Ladies 3rd XI
13 November 2010 | by Kelly Hutcherson, Additional Report by Charlotte Sayers
On a very cold and windy morning Potters Bar Ladies 3rd team arrived at Stevenages Noble school ready for their first game in 3 weeks. Stevenage fielding what can only be described as an 'eclectic' team started well and straight away Potters Bar were under pressure. This fortunatly did not last long and for 30mins Potters Bar had all the play and attacked hard at the Stevenage end. Unfortunatly lack of match minutes became very apparent and Potters Bar were very disapointed and frustrated to still be all square at half time.
A good quick team talk at half time did the trick and straight from the restart Potters Bar pushed forward passing the ball wide to the wings and creating a couple of chances.
It wasnt long there after that Vanessa Garner combined with Katie Lane up the right side and a good ball into the D resulted in Katy Francis getting in front of her defender and pushing home her first of the match. 1-0 to Potters Bar.
This lifted the team and straight away Vanessa and Katie combined again, and again a great ball in allowed Katy Francis to score her second in as many minutes.
Stevenage then settled down and pushed the ball around and gave Potters Bars defence a few problems but the good keeping of Jenni Harrington and excellent defending of Emma Davis kept all of Stevenages efforts out.
10 mins from the end and Potters Bar were looking good which allowed Charlotte Sayers to push up from the back and she soon latched onto a forward pass and drove into the D and calmly pushed the ball past the on coming keeper for a well deserved goal and Potters Bars third of the game.
The match finished 3-0 and Potters Bar remain undeafted in division 7.
Additional Report
Once upon a time in a little town called Stevenage it was a cold Saturday morning. There was a hockey match being played between Potters Bar ladies 3rd XI and Stevenage 3rd XI. After a three week break from hockey by Potters Bar 3rds victory was still upon them.
The game started slow but the first 10 minutes Potters Bar kept possession of the ball and also kept the ball in their half. The first 35 minutes of play was not the greatest start to a game of hockey, and ended in 0-0 but there was still another half to go.
The second half started without Charlotte after she was take off by injury with a split in the thumb. As the game carried on the first goal was awarded to Potters Bar by Katie Francis. The midfield and the forwards kept a good defending line; the defence was not needed that much as a result and so they pushed up. Most of the game Vanessa was driving the ball down the right wing and kept possession, whilst Katie Francis, little Katie, Kelly, Emma and Rebecca came into the D trying to fight for the ball and trying to score, with Katie Francis having had many chances to score a goal.
In the middle of the second half the ball was driven up the middle of the pitch by Kelly and passed to Vanessa on the right wing and was passed into the D to Charlotte and a nice little hit to make it 2-0.
The winning goal was scored by Katie Francis. Aas the game was beginning to end with the whistle already blown Potters Bar had a short, taken by Katie Francis. As Kelly hit it in, it went off and the game went to potters bar ladies 3s.
