Mens 1st XI Match Report

Rickmansworth 1st XI v Potters Bar Mens 1st XI

13 November 2010 | by Andrew Tow Leong

Potters Bar continued their great form by beating Rickmansworth 6-2 although the scoreline didn’t quite appreciate how end to end and how hard Bar were pushed back into their 25 at times.

The opening goal came after 10 minutes with a great move down the left wing, for Charlie Irish to smash in a pin point cross to the back post for Miles Edson to guide it in easily past the sprawling keeper with his first touch of the game to make it 1- 0. Rickmansworth quickly responded as Bar dropped their guard for a brief moment and they were able to equalise. After some lovely distribution around the back by Bar, Andrew Foster-Yeow played a perfectly weighted throughball for Mark Turpin to take it round the keeper and then get maliciously fouled by the back pedalling defenders and earned a penalty flick that Ed Whybrow clinically dispatched into the bottom left corner. Another goal quickly followed with another throughball to Mark Turpin who got pushed out wide after rounding the keeper and his cross was pushed into the goal by the keeper diving back to stop the cross.

The second half was much the same with more end to end hockey. A move down the right wing from Bar led to Ed Whybrow shooting from an angle and a defenders leg stopped it on the line. Another penalty flick to Bar that Ed Whybrow effortlessly placed into the bottom right corner with the keeper having no idea which way to go. After a short period of the Bar D being bombarded by several short corners and many daring runs by Rickmansworths central midfielder. Geoff Smith in goal played superbly saving plenty of shots and taking out several of their players. But their efforts eventually paid off with a great finish from close range into the top corner. But that wasn’t going to stop Bar’s counter attacks and after some great play from Chris Chittleborough and Whybrow, Whybrow stormed through middle and took it round the keeper and scored from a tight angle to complete his hat-trick. More Bar pressure and a short corner came. A quick pass from the top of the D, the shot came to Miles Edson who completely missed the ball, but had enough time to compose himself and lay it off to Chittleborough who slotted it into the bottom corner to make it 6-2. Miles Tomkins also came close with a cracking shot from the top D off another short with the defender making an amazing save behind him through the legs off the line, and another shot pinging off the post. Altogether a great display by Bar against a very capable opposition.

Final Score: Potters Bar 6 - 2 Rickmansworth

Goal Scorers: Miles Edson, Ed Whybrow (3), Mark Turpin, Chris Chittleborough
