Ladies 2nd XI Match Report

Queenswood 1st XI v Potters Bar Ladies 2nd XI

12 March 2011 | by Esther Strous

Once Upon a Time... the Ladies Guru's were up bright and early for an early 9.30am pushback at Queenswood School on Saturday 12th.

With a few injuries in the bag but a full team of eager PB players we were ready for the young, fitter side of QW.

PB won the toss and chose to have first pushback. The idea....to attack from the first whistle which is what PB did.The ball traveled from QW defense to PB defense for pretty much the first 15-20minutes. With a surprising new hockey skill in play courtesy of the QW captain as she displayed great skill with aerials being placed in almost perfect position. Once PB got use to this play we read and gained possesion showing our experience. Great play from both sides made it the game PB were expecting, tough and alot of running. After a couple short corners awarded to QW, great defending and clearing from PB kept them at 0-0 till the ball found the back of the PB goal making it 1-0. Trying to get one back and level the score the Guru's fought back and found themselves with a few missed oppurtunities with short corners and open goals.
QW got possession of the ball with bout 5minutes left of the first half and a weak second goal found its way into the PB goal.

Halftime score 2-0

The second half started as the first ended with QW making the Guru's defense work really hard, defending shorts and clearing the attacks. It was all PB's half as we kept QW from scoring with great interceptions and stick work in the field. A great hard fought game by the Guru's
