Ladies 3rd XI Match Report

Potters Bar Ladies 3rd XI v Milton Keynes

19 March 2011 | by Jenni Harrington

The early morning game is always a hard thing to prepare for but with the recent memory of the away game against this opposition and the 2-0 defeat we were convinced we were ready.

MK with a fairly youthful set of players started the brighter of the teams and it was only last ditch tackles from Gronia Morley and Esther Strous and also a goaline clearance (also from Gronia) within the first 10 minutes that prevented an early away goal. Not long after that the opposition’s pressure paid off and we conceded a weak goal.

This goal seemed to be the kick start to our teams hunger and with some great midfield work and drilled crosses our team spent the rest of the first half attacking with only momentary tackling duties. Only thing lacking by the half time whistle was a home goal.

At halftime the team talk led by the captain, Kelly Hutcherson, took the positives from the end of the 1st half and set options for improvement for the 2nd half. Our secret weapon Rebecca Partridge was to be used to man mark the opposition’s main threat and captain.

The 2nd half started much the same as the first with some great defending from all the Bar team but this time it didn’t take a goal from MK to get the team rallied together. Some great build up play led to Chris Field getting free causing an opposition error before drilling a pass into the D for Katie Lane who ran onto the cross and tapped in pass the advancing keeper who then clattered into the goal scorer.

When the goal went in both teams seemed keen to get a winner which opened the game and caused a dramatic end to the game. The goal was nearly repeated when the same 2 players combined for Bar with only a great save from the opposition keeping them in the game. Plenty of short corners, shots, and a few saves before the full time whistle blew!

A draw being a fair result on the day, leaving Bar in 3rd with 1 game to go and MK in 4th only a point behind.
