Ladies 3rd XI Match Report

Potters Bar Ladies 3rd XI v Broxbourne 6th XI

12 March 2011 | by Lorraine Gallagher

Robbed! Robbed Robed Robbed!!! Of our final goal and a win!

Potters Bar Ladies 3rd Xl turned out on a sunny morning for a midday pushback against Broxbourne 6th Xl. Not put off by the youthful look of the opposition, Potters Bar pushed out for an attacking first 20 mins. Neusha Pirouzi, Katy Lane and Chris Field lead the attack against Broxbourne, with Chris Field scoring the first goal of the match.

Broxbourne avenged hard and managed to out maneuver the defense: Lorraine Gallagher, Gronia Morley, Cerys Chiswell and Kelly Hutcherson, and pop one clean goal past GK: Jenni Harrington. The defense continued to work well together but had an energetic work out, with Jenni Harrington saving several more attempts on goal and Cerys Chiswell and Liz Finding worked hard, repeatedly digging the ball out of the left defense and distributing forward. Possession was difficult to keep against the quick little interceptions from the Broxbourne ladies. Swift and accurate passing up the wings from Broxbourne resulted in them scoring a second goal. The score at the end of the first half was 2:1 to Broxbourne.

At half time, hard talking Captain: Kelly Hutcherson, seemed to bring the Potters Bar Ladies back to the second half with renewed energy and optimism and an exciting and invigorating second half followed. A keen Vicky Watts and Rebecca Partridge in the middle helped pivot and propel the ball out of the defense and onto the sticks of our attack. Liz Finding picking up the attack bringing an early equalizing second goal for Potters Bar. Broxbourne attacked again using the pitch well. They scored yet another fast and confidant goal putting them back in the lead.

Potters Bar fought back hard, leading to Chris Field having a clean hit on goal towards the end of the second half, equalizing the score at three all. Determined to achieve a win, both teams battled well to claim the match. Our own Chris Field, off a short corner and cleanly into the goal, struck the deciding goal. The roar of cheers and screams of halation from supporters swept across the pitch as Potters Bar ladies celebrated the winning goal in the final minute of the match…. Only to be broken by the piercing late whistle blow from the visiting umpire and her hands going up signaling the goal was disallowed! Despite a reasoned attempt by the Potters Bar umpire, Nikki, to bring a fair decision to the game, the visiting umpire had apparently seen what Nikki nor any of the supporters (four of whom were also umpires) had seen and the goal was disallowed. The final result was a 3-3 draw. Robbed I say again!

However, our disappointment in having a goal disallowed was somewhat softened as we found Esther, who was supporting from the side line, had sat on a banana and only realized as she leapt up to celebrate our final goal. Thank you Esther!

The game was rounded off nicely back at the clubhouse by generous teas put on by Rebecca Partridge.
