Ladies 2nd XI Match Report
Potters Bar Ladies 2nd XI v Vauxhall Chiltern 2nd XI

Waking up to what seemed like a gale force wind is always a delight when heading off to a hockey match. Having arrived at the pitch which is a sand based astro the members of the team who arrived early (won’t be doing that again) were faced with a quite unusal warm up. The wind had blown the majority of the sand down to one end and collected in one of the goals which meant the goal line was completely covered. Moving the goal although good for building muscles proved to be fun in the wind before helpful people found brushes. After being told in no uncertain terms I was useless with a brush it was lucky for me that Katy was around as she enlightened us all about her lecture in sand at uni and was an expert ...............
Vauxhall Chiltern from Luton were our visitors and although on paper this looked like an easy game bearing in mind they are second from bottom in the league this was far from the case.
The game started with an early goal from the visitors and although we would have liked to blame the wind it would be more accurate to say we just weren’t that awake. The game continued with both teams quite even but finally Louise scored a brilliant equaliser having run from the half way line into the circle and scoring into the bottom corner. Still celebrating from our equaliser it didn’t take us long to find ourselves behind again due to the fact of forgetting what defending was really about and leaving our goalie Jenni with no chance. So back to the middle to try again and following some pressure and a short corner being signalled we were back on level terms at half time thanks to Esther.
Half time wasn’t a happy occasion as the words, rubbish, forgetting the basic’s, and not passing quickly enough greeted us.
As the game restarted we now had the wind behind us and a desire to secure a win. Another short corner converted by them put us behind , our equaliser scored by put us back in the game. The game followed by another short corner this time converted by Esther after a string of fouls putting us in front for the first time in the game. The game was now 4-3 and although Chiltern never gave up we eventually secured all the points when Shelly scored our 5th and sealed the game.
