Ladies 1st XI Match Report

Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI v Welwyn Garden City 1st XI

05 March 2011 | by Caroline Stanners

After a 2 week break Bar were back in action with a home game against local rivals Welwyn. Bar started the game retaining much of the possession and creating a number of attacks. Swanni Herrmann and Caroline Stanners were able to utilise the space and push up the wings and Sarah Jowett and Katy Daly worked hard up front to create a number of chances. However Bar were unable to convert possession into goals.

Welwyn were able to break on a number of occasions but were kept at bay by the solid defending of Claire Moore, Faye Jowett and Meme Zakiewicz, with Nikki Park in goal making some good saves when called upon. Neither side were able to break the deadlock though with the score remaining 0-0 at half time.

Welwyn started off the second half with much more determination than Bar, working and distributing the ball well and it was not long before they went 1-0 up through a well struck short corner. As the half wore on both sides had further opportunities - Caroline Partridge and Anna Walker were able to make some good runs through the middle and Sue Richardson delivered a number of searching balls into the D. However, it was not to be and the final result was a disappointing 1-0 loss for Bar, who are away next week to league leaders Havering.

Final Score: Potters Bar 0 - 1 Welwyn Garden City

Goal Scorers:

Team: Nikki Park, Meme Zakiewicz, Sue Richardson, Claire Moore, Faye Jowett, Caroline Partridge, Anna Walker, Swanni Herrmann, Caroline Stanners, Sarah Jowett, Katy Daly
