Ladies 1st XI Match Report
Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI v Waltham Forest 2nd XI
29 January 2011 | by Faye Jowett
There was a hum of excitement before the match, which made a change from the usual pre match hum which came from the old kit! All the team arrived on time except for tardy Stanners who had obviously been out celebrating the night before, as had our loyal supporter Ed, who apparently had recently formed a new relationship hugging a toilet bowl.
There was question as to whether the defence would be able to cope without Moore with her usual wise words and skill and clearly the first half score showed the team were unable to as it half ended with Bar having let in 4 goals and only scoring 1 by Caroline Stanners. The lack of goals was due again to the inability of Sarah to score (and she doesn’t get many goals either!).
A motivational half time talk from Partridge resulted in a rejuvenated Bar in the second half and goals went flying in from Lucy Edwards, Sarah Jowett, Caroline Stanners and then the match winner by Anna Walker.
Unfortunately, there was a moment of great unease during that half when Jowett senior hit Edwards in what Jowett described as an accident, however, as in previous matches, Jowett had been heard muttering to herself that ‘that Edwards girl is getting too many goals and she won't steal my Westoby shield, she just won't’. So we can all make up our own minds as to whether it was an 'accident’ that left Edwards maimed for life.
Bar’s second half performance was much more impressive mainly due to the relentless efforts of Walker who had clearly eaten her Weetabix. The final score was 5-4 and Bar remain undefeated in 2011.
Final Score: Potters Bar 5 - 4 Waltham Forest
Goal Scorers: Caroline Partridge, Lucy Edwards, Caroline Stanners, Sarah Jowett, Anna Walker
