Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI v Phoenix 1st XI

Potters Bar started the New Year with a tightly contested match against Phoenix.
Potters Bar had to start the match with a different line up to that was plannned due the goalie being stuck on the M25. Jo Spinks the stand in had a perfect 1st half foiling several Phoenix attacks in style. Bar started the game on the attack and had a few goal scoring oppurtunities with Lucy Edwards and Caroline Stanners both having shots saved by the Phoenix keeper. Phoenix then started to press forward being awared several short corners in a row.Stand in keeper Jo Spinks repelled them each time making some fine saves including a one on one with a Phoenix forward. At the first half whistle the score was 0-0.
The second half started similarily to the first with Bar pressing forward with good inter play from the midfield of Caroline Partridge, Anna Walker, Caroline Stanners and Jo Spinks now playing at right half as the keeper Emma had arrived. Jo came very cose to scoring on several occasions before Anna scored from a short corner that deflected off of a Phoenix stick into the goal. Bar continued to press for the second goal. Vanessa Porter had to be substituted half way through the second half when the ball was hit straight onto her knee from a Phoenix hit out. Faye Jowett came on as a replacement and soon scored Bar's second goal on the second attempt, flicking the ball over the prostrate Phoenix keeper.
Potters Bar managed to hang on for the last few minutes of the match to record a winning start to the second half of the season.
Final Score: Potters Bar 2-0 Phoenix
