25 September 2010 | by Esther Strous
Once upon a time...
On the 25th September Potters Bar Ladies 2nd XI saw their first fixture arrive of the new season, in a new division higher than last year, in the form of St Neots Ladies 3’s at their home ground. The weather was true to form and signalling the beginning of the Winter season sport we could all feel it. Potters Bar fielded a team of 12 ladies. All ready to get into the game again after some time off and also all excited for the prospects ahead after finishing strongly last season.
Winning the toss and deciding to choose a side, St Neots took first centre pushback and immediately Bar took control of the game and attacked numerous times in the first 5 minutes of the game. Great Keeper work from St Neots saw a lot of chances missed by Bar.
Finally, Bar worked the ball through the field with Vanessa Porter putting the ball against the backboard putting Bar 1-0 up. After that it wasn’t long before another goal, a very surprising goal, occurred. With a hit into the ‘D’ by Emma Pasmore the ball found a deflection off Louise Allmark’s stick sending the ball over the St Neots Keepers head and into the back net putting Bar 2-0 up at half time.
Half time talk was positive and Bar went into the second half eager. St Neots started with the attack but great play in defense and great marking by Bar they never got the chance on goal. Winning the ball and great play in moving the ball through the field up for attack from Defense, Midfield and Forwards, Bar saw 2 more goals in the second half scored by Emma Passmore and another for Vanessa Porter. Making the final score 4-0 to Potters Bar and making that a great start in Division 3 for the season.
