Ladies 1st XI Match Report
Potters Bar 1st XI v Hertford 1st XI
25 September 2010 | by Sarah Jowett
After a victory in their first league game, Potters Bar travelled to local rivals Hertford in confident mood.
Bar started the game strongly and newcomer Kerry McCann quickly found plenty of freedom wide on the right and showed good dribbling skills to attack the Hertford defence.
Fifteen minutes into the first half, Bar deservedly took the lead when Caroline Partridge took a quick free hit and found Sarah Jowett just outside the Hertford area. Jowett turned her defender and shot past the Hertford keeper who seemed strangely rooted to the spot.
Bar continued to press with Caroline Stanners surging through the Hertford defence only to be denied at the last by the combined efforts of three defenders.
Hertford slowly began to get a foothold in the game and their ever dangerous centre forward levelled the scores with a fierce shot that saw some Bar defenders diving for cover.
The setback was shortlived and Bar quickly retook the lead when a short corner was fed to Anna Walker who calmly side stepped the oncoming defender and slipped the ball to Jowett who scored her second of the game.
Despite a positive half time talk, Bar seemed strangely lacklustre in the second half allowing Hertford to again equalise when they eventually put the ball in the goal after two initial saves by Bar keeper Mo Gough. A slight sense of panic engulfed the Bar team who struggled to find each other with their passes allowing Hertford to apply further pressure.
The Bar defence held firm for the remainder of the half and Lucy Edwards was unlucky not to snatch all the points when put through one on one, only for the keeper to save her effort.
In the end a well earned point but Bar will want to push for a win against Chelmsford next Saturday.
Final Score: Potters Bar 2 - 2 Hertford
