Mens 1st XI Match Report

Letchworth 2nd XI v Potters Bar Mens 1st XI

20 November 2010 | by Elvin Kulendra

It was a foggy Saturday afternoon and PBHC Mens 1st XI faced an undefeated Letchworth 2nd XI.  PB faced sustained pressure early on in the first half which culminated in a short corner to Letchworth.  Letchworth successfully converted the short corner with an impressive flick into the top right corner to take an early 1-0 lead.  However, despite the pressure PB continued to defend well.  Mark Turpin struck back on the counter attack and first went passed the opposition centre back before taking on the keeper to bring the scores all level at half time to 1-1.

In the second half PB picked up the pace and Letchworth were on the back foot.  Mark Turpin again managed to score a breakaway goal and midway through the first half PB took the lead 2-1.  PB continued to keep the pressure up and managed to keep possession well.  As time went on in the second half Letchworth started to feel the pressure and started to push more men forward.  However, this left them open at the back and Mark Turpin again was put through for a one on one with the keeper which he successfully converted to round of an impressive hat-trick.  Letchworth heads went down at this stage, but PB didn’t lay off the pressure.  This time it was Ed Whybrow who skipped passed a couple of players before drilling it passed the keeper into the top of the net.  The only movement the keeper had time to make was to pick the ball out of the net.  This rounded of an impressive performance by PBHC Mens 1st XI consolidating their position at the top of the table.

Final Score: Potters Bar 4 - 1 Letchworth

Goal Scorers: Mark Turpin (3), Ed Whybrow
