Letchworth 1st XI v Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI

OMG! As the teenagers say. This week’s match was so eventful that there isn’t even time to mention Faye Jowett’s tardiness. The match was the hardest fought of the season with both sides working hard to try and secure the win.
Letchworth arrived pumped up and ready to go. Our first mistake was letting them take over the Lucky Dug Out. But we were soon making them nervous with our dynamic warm up which lulled them into a false sense of security with their manager commenting that we looked lethargic. Well lethargy turned into the first goal when a great cross by Sue Richardson was swept into the back of the net by Lucy Edwards. Letchworth fought back securing the next two goals despite some great defending by Karen Mason, Claire Moore and Faye Jowett. The midfield then took the game to Letchworth with Caroline Partridge, Caroline Stanners and Anna Walker linking up and driving forward. A short corner was secured and put neatly away by Stanners.
Letchworth went on the attack again. Moore tried to unsettle the opposition when her ‘funny little slap hit’ caught her opponent’s bottom. Unfortunately it didn’t work and Letchworth put away their third goal. Potters Bar weren’t going to be defeated though and strong runs forward were made by Jo Spinks, Charlie Small and Emily Sherlock. A move down the left saw Stanners link with Edwards whose cross was met by Sherlock making the score 3-3. Unfortunately, despite an incredible work rate from all of the Potters Bar players and some amazing saves by Mo Gough and Spinks, Letchworth scored their fourth goal with the final score 4-3 to Letchworth. Richardson was so traumatised she even has a post match shower.
