Ladies 1st XI Match Report
Havering 1st XI v Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI
12 March 2011 | by Vanessa Porter
Potters Bar were braving what was always going to be a difficult game against top of the division Havering. Bar got off to a good start with an early goal from Sarah Jowett converting a cross (of sorts) from the right from Vanessa Porter. Havering then took control and began to batter the Potters Bar defence with a number of shots in quick succession. The Bar defence were doing their best to keep the attackers out, but unfortunately couldn’t keep the attack at bay despite a number of near goal-line clearances by Claire Moore. Havering scored a handful of goals in quick succession, but there was still hope for a comeback when Anna Walker had a powerful shot on target from a short corner deflected past the keeper. Defenders Meme Zakiewicz, Sue Richardson, Faye Jowett and Moore, backed up by some excellent work from keeper Mo Gough, continued to battle out the first half as Havering continued their attack but Bar found themselves 6-2 down at half-time.
The second half saw Havering score a further 4 goals, despite some more sturdy defending. Bar did continue to attack through a number of good runs out of defence by Caroline Partridge and some good play up the left between Caroline Stanners and Lucy Edwards. Bar had a few more chances to score but were unlucky not to take them.
Final Score: Potters Bar 2 - 10 Havering
Goal Scorers: Sarah Jowett, Anna Walker
Team: Mo Gough, Claire Moore, Sue Richardson, Faye Jowett, Meme Zakiewicz, Anna Walker, Caroline Partridge, Caroline Stanners, Vanessa Porter, Lucy Edwards, Sarah Jowett
