Harpenden 1st XI v Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI

Well the big news this week, is that the twinkle we thought was down to Caroline Stanner’s passion and commitment to hockey is, in fact, because she has a new man! At least that explains the recent tardiness… And speaking of tardiness, it was nice of Meme Cantfindthepwicz to finally turn up.
So Bar decided this week, to actually turn up for both halves rather than the traditional one. Maybe it was the slick, well rehearsed warm up routine that got Bar pumped and sent shivers of fear through the Harpenden side?
The first half started well with the 20 year partnership of Jowett and Edwards producing a Jowett special. They linked up again with this time Edwards getting the goal and making the score 2-0.
Bar’s mid field dominated play with Porter and Herrmann producing some scintillating breaks on the right and Richardson making some great breaks through the middle. Stanners nearly scored, only to have thieving Edwards steal her opportunity.
The defence remained solid, except for a couple of times, but we’ll put that down to the wind.
Bar’s third goal was a Partridge Special, picked up from the mid field and deftly dribbled into the D. Partridge weighed up her options. Weighed them up again and finally picked her spot with precision and rattled the ball past the goalie.
The ref, throughout the game, was very encouraging to Bar, praising our ‘good tackles’ and generally commenting on our ‘good play’. How sweet.
It took Meme’s off pitch encouragement to give Bar the boost they needed to hold strong and win 3-2.
