Chelmsford 3rd XI v Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI

Bar started the first half well despite the team struggling with the volume of water on the Chelmsford pitch. A fine break by Caroline Stanners and Lucy Edwards saw the ball slipped through to Sarah Jowett who put her shot narrowly wide, something she would repeat on numerous occasions during the afternoon.
Shortly afterwards the same combination saw Jowett’s reverse stick shot beat the keeper to put Bar one up.
Chelmsford were stirred by the goal and began to attack but were generally thwarted in midfield by Swanni Herrman and Anna Walker. Meanwhile the Bar defence of Faye Jowett, Claire Moore and Sue Richardson were well organised and prevented Chelmsford getting many clear cut chances. When not busy defending they were also heard to be making a number of constructive comments on the Bar forwards’ play. On the rare occasions the defence was breeched Glenys Chiswell showed what a fine keeper she is with some excellent saves.
Following the obligatory weekly injury to Moore, Bar pressed forward and captain Caroline Partridge, having had an earlier shot saved, fed Vanessa Porter who flicked the ball past the on rushing keeper to put Bar 2-0 up at half time.
The second half proved to be a mixture of goals and sendings off. Lucy Edwards got her first early in the half rounding off a bar move with a tap over the line. Did she steal the goal? Not in the eyes of this reporter. The goal was followed by the first sending off when Porter was pushed over by the Chelmsford midfielder. Bar struggled at first against 10 but after another goal mouth scramble, Walker’s shot come pass was finished off by Porter for her second of the game.
After another smattering of missed chances by Bar, Chelmsford were again reduced to 10 players with then minutes of the game remaining. With two minutes left Bar added a bit of gloss to the scoreline, firstly with Edwards grabbing a second sliding the ball past the keeper as it pinged around the area. That was quickly followed by Bar’s final goal as Walker collected a cross from the left and lifted her shot past the keeper.
