Blueharts 2nd XI v Potters Bar Ladies 2nd XI

On the first weekend in November, Potters Bar Ladies 2nd XI spent a rather chilly afternoon in Hitchin. Having survived the stench of urine in the boys’ school’s grubby changing rooms, the ladies embarked on what proved to be a challenging match.
A cheeky little foot stole Rose’s ‘first’ goal away from her, and shortly after, Bar was further disappointed when a second goal was disallowed. Finally, Bar’s first legitimate goal came from a fantastic strike by Strous following a short corner, giving Farmer the opportunity to finish off on rebound. This boosted Bar’s confidence. A second cracking goal came from Rose after another short, just before half-time.
The second half saw Garner driving the ball confidently up the right wing on several occasions giving Bar more opportunities at goal. Finding worked effortlessly up front playing some great passes to Lewis and Farmer. Sayers utilised her space on the left wing well which proved useful when she was able to receive the ball and drive into the D from the left. Unfortunately Sayers was denied her place on the score sheet after her strike was returned by Blueharts’ keeper. It was a relatively dull game for Rouse and Cullen in defence who were marking the wingers out of the game, leaving Spencer and Strous in the middle to break up Blueharts’ two key players. Chiswell kept the ball away from goal on a number of occasions, but unfortunately, Blueharts finally broke through Bar’s defence and scored from a short corner, making a final score of 2-1.
Player of the Match went to Rose who worked tirelessly in midfield, picking up the ball countless times and driving it up field as well as helping the defence out. A cracking game - well deserved. Wooden Spoon went to Strous for flailing her stick inches from the opposition’s face, which saved Farmer from receiving it for spectacularly missing a great pass from Cullen!
