Ladies 1st XI Match Report

Harpenden 1st XI v Potters Bar Ladies 1st XI

01 October 2011 | by Lucy Edwards

In the scorching October sun, the ladies 1st Xl faced top of the table Harpenden on Saturday, hoping to pick up their first points of the season. Sadly it was not to be as Bar’s passing game continued to elude them and they quickly fell three goals behind in the first half, all to almost identical short corner routines from Harpenden.

Bar had some success attacking down the wings but were thwarted by a goal line clearance from a defender and some near misses from short corners.

After some welcome drinks and a half time pep talk from the convalescing Claire Moore, Bar produced an improved performance in the second half as passes finally began to find players and a level of composure began to return. An attack down the right from Vanessa Porter found Sarah Jowett in the D and her flick to Lucy Edwards saw Bar’s captain finally open their scoring for the day. Edwards was unlucky not to add a second shortly after when her shot stuck under the keeper’s body.

Bar continued to push forward with Caroline Partridge and Caroline Stanners setting up further chances. However, the final goal of the game came as Harpenden broke away to score their fourth.

Bar will need to build on their second half performance next week as they seek that elusive first win!

Final Score: Potters Bar 1 - 4 Harpenden
