Bishops Stortford 4th XI v Potters Bar Ladies' 2nd XI

On the first game back after what seems like a very short Christmas break the Ladies 2's where back in action. They made the trip up to Bishops Stortford for a sensible 1.30pm push back but a very very cold afternoon.
The team started well with a good 15 minutes of possession, good through balls from Michelle and Ruth H in mid and defence allowed the attacking front line of Katy, Esther and Chris to push the Stortford defence but unfortunately to no avail. Stortford had a good spell of attacks allowing them a couple of short corners but solid defending from Charlotte on the left, Ash on the right, the two Ruths in the centre and Jenni's kicking in goal kept all Stortford's pressure at bay.
The introduction of three subs allowed Bar to continue running off the Christmas turkey and enjoyed a lot more of the ball but again the Stortford defence kept the ball out of their D. 0-0 at half time.
A couple of helpful words from the more experienced players and a team talk that concentrated on passing and creating space seemed to help Bar and straight from the restart Bar attacked down the left with Claire and Gronia combining nicely and putting balls into the D but unfortunately every attempt by Rebecca was kept out by the Stortford keeper. The game continued at a fast pace and both teams enjoyed spells of attack and also defended well when needed.
Another change on the right bringing Vicky into the fray and Esther moving back to CF allowed Bar the last 15 minutes of play and continued pressure on the Stortford defence. Excellent hit outs by Ruth S and charging runs from defence by Ash kept Stortford on their toes, unfortunately the opposition keeper stood strong and as the final whistle went a 0-0 scoreline was recorded but a strong display from Potters Bar is a positive start to 2012 and the second half of the season.
