Under 14 Girls start 2012 well
By Peter Simmons on 15 January 2012
Potters Bar Under 14 Girls started the New Year fixtures with a win and a loss against two large clubs with larger well established junior sections. These matches were also the Juniors' first experience of playing on the relaid Furzefield pitch, a better experience for the parents (cover and coffee available) but a slow sandy surface for the girls to play on.
Potters Bar played a Hertford side full of county players first and paid the price for a slow start by conceeding a goal early on. For most of the first half Rebecca Yates and Charlotte Andiyapan in defence were kept busy while Olivia Robinson in goal made a series of good saves. Near the end of the half Potters Bar broke into the Hertford half with a driving run and cross from Caitlin Creeley that was swept into goal by Daisy Rabbit to make it 1-1 at half time.
In the second half Hertford stepped up a gear and scored two more goals. However Potters Bar were combining better with Kelley O'Neill and Suzannah Donovan linking the defence well to the attack. Caitlin Creeley continued to cause Hertford trouble whenever she had the ball and went close with several shots. The score finished 3-1 to Hertford.
In their second game Potters Bar showed much more determination throughout the team with Charlotte Andiyapan and Suzannah Donovan really growing in confidence in both winning and passing the ball. Potters Bar had Letchworth under pressure for much of the game and took the lead midway through the first half with fine play from Suzannah Donovan setting up Caitlin Creely to score with a firm shot. Rebecca Yates and Charlotte Andiyapan did well to break up the Letchworth attacks further up the pitch and provide good service to Kelley O'Neill, Daisy Rabbit and Caitlin Creeley. Olivia Robinson was not busy in goal but kicked the ball clear when needed.
Potters Bar extended their lead soon after half time with another mazy run from Caitlin Creeley setting up Daisy Rabbit for a solid finish. Potters Bar maintained the pressure and Letchworth had few opportunities to get back in the game. An excellent 2-0 win for Potters Bar.
