Round up of this weekends results
By Anthony Levi on 31 October 2010
Having asked Ed why we no longer get a Saturday evening email setting out the day’s results, it seems I have been volunteered for the task! So here goes with my first weekly update on a day of mixed results for the club:
The Ladies 1s went down 1-0 away to Wapping 2s. The side were missing a number of players which resulted in a below par performance on an undulating pitch. Even then the team were unlucky to come away empty handed as Anna Walker had a goal incorrectly ruled out for being outside the D.
The Mens 1s beat Winchmore Hill and Enfield 5-3 at DAOS, thanks to 3 goals from Ed Whybrow and 2 from Mark Turpin. This was an excellent match against a strong opposition and could have gone either way. Some excellent defending was the key to securing 3 points that maintains a position in the promotion places.
The Mens 2s slipped to a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Letchworth V. In a game reminiscent of the recent game at Broxbourne, Letchworth ‘parked the bus’ relying on an experienced defence. It looked like Bar were in with a chance of all the points when Danny Becker equalised on 60 minutes, but despite being down to 10 men, Letchworth broke away to win and score from a short corner with 5 minutes remaining.
The Mens 3s put in an excellent performance in being unlucky to go down 2-0 to a very experienced Bedford Town Vets XI who sit comfortably on top of the table. This was a very close game with the final score flattering the opposition as the second goal was scored from a short corner in the dying seconds of the match. There were far more positives than negatives to take away from the game, with a man of the match performance from goalkeeper Jordan Page.
The Ladies 2s and 3s had another week without league games.
