POTTERS BAR JUNIOR HOCKEY TEAM SCORES FIRST WIN
February 2010
After several fixtures being abandoned or postponed Potters Bar's new Under 11 team have now played four matches over the last two Sundays and achieved their first win in the Herts Junior League.
Last Sunday at Broxbourne on a frozen pitch with puddles on top, Potters Bar bounced back from a 8-0 drubbing by Broxbourne to loose narrowly 1-2 to an experienced St Albans side. After soaking up lots of pressure with Charlotte Caswell and Olivia Robinson prominent in defence, Potters Bar bounced back in the second half with Caitlin Creeley scoring an excellent goal with good support from Christopher Pantelli. Although St Albans regained the lead Potters Bar showed excellent team play in appalling conditions with Oliver Stevens, Jessica Hawes and Sean Lovell battling hard across the pitch against players several years older than them
This Sunday Potters Bar hosted the might of National League Club Southgate and West Herts. After being shown the benefits of possession hockey by Southgate in a 5-0 defeat Potters Bar recovered well to score their first win in the Herts Junior League against West Herts, 2-1. Although Caitlin Creeley scored both the goals this was a real team effort with Daniel Leonard and Daniel Bannin battling hard in midfield, Christopher Pantelli covering lots of ground and Jonathan Jennyclos showing promise on his debut in the side.
The team, sponsored by Hertsmere Council, can hopefully look forward to more success in hopefully better weather conditions over the next month in their remaining fixtures.
