Potters Bar 1st XI v Letchworth 6th XI
Saturday 10th October 2009

On a warm sunny October's day The Bar's 'Dads Army' looked at the youth in the team to help them through a tough game against Letchworth - a team that had done the double over them last year. But they didn't have to worry long as it soon became apparant that the combination of generations was to prove a winning hit as they domininated the game.

Early runs by new boy Declan, showed that he has a natural flair and caused problems down the wing for the the Letchworth defence. But although chances were created by the Bar they could not capitalise on their early authority. But that soon changed when Dave Ensor took a shot at goal which although well saved the rebound was converted by an ever alert poacher Adam Pigden who took his goal well.

Bar pushed for their 2nd goal creating havoc in the Letchwoth defence especially when against the sun Alex Seeney took a running hit from the egde of the D which no one saw, not even the keeper as it rebounded of the upright.

The second half saw a Bar team determined to show that they were up for the fight to win the maximum points available with their quest to win promotion this season. A short corner half way though the second half saw a shot from Andy Bye converted by Adam Pigden who made Gary Linekar look an amateur at the poacher game! With some astute timely substitutions by the skipper Steve Walters Bar took the game to Letchworth with the old master Peter Simmons coaxing from the side. But he had nothing to worry about as his more than able replacement Joe stood firm in defence, again a new boy to the team and game.

Letchworth threw caution to the wind and pushed for a goal which they got courtesy of a short corner with four minutes to go. The Bar stood firm and soaked up further pressure in the dying seconds of the game with James McMormick, a youthful member of the team, showing a mature head with some very timely tackles and clearances.

Bar always looked the more assured of the two teams and can take real confidence from this performance against a strong and experienced Letchworth side.
