Seventh Heaven: Potters Bar II open account with a large deposit. Sayers lets his stick do the talking with four.
Potters Bar II were celebrating their inaugural match last night with a seven nil dismissal of Hertford IV.
Bar started brightly with some good moves, passing with patience, with Hertford’s lack of “hussle” allowing passes to be made with ease.
The nerves were settled early in the game by Danny Becker’s goal mouth scramble to get Bar under way. From then on Hertford were camped in their own half for much of the game, unable to clear easily from 16 hits they came immediately under pressure from the attacking midfield trident of Liam Frame, Tony Seaman, and Tony Sayers. Their youth and tenacity pushing back Hertford’s midfield back on to their defence.
Two further goals were scored before half time with Danny Becker heavily involved in the build up for both. Tony Sayers scoring a well worked goal, the third a clean strike from Toby Seaman making it 3 nil at half time.
The second half continued in the same vain as the first with good passing and movement from Bar with Hertford unable to string passes together consistently. The pressure finally built enough for Danny Becker to storm through for a lovely solo effort, beating several defenders before striking home for his second.
After that the Sayers show started. Tony Sayers completing a second half hattrick punctuated with good movement, positioning and striking ability.
Bar finished as they started: attacking all the time and their defence was seldom threatened. If history is written by the winner this surely was inscribed in caps and bold.
