After a tight first half, Potters Bar came out firing in the second to beat Broxbourne 6-0 whilst also hitting the post three times.

Playing a team near the bottom of the division, NE14HOCKEY East League Division Six South West leaders Potters Bar went into Saturday's match with confidence high. However, with workhorse captain Paul Brady missing, Bar were missing something in midfield and Broxbourne created time and space in this area to feed their forward line.

Bar's dependable defense were given a workout and acquitted themselves well, with the Bar keeper barely getting a touch. Brady's replacement was newcomer Carlo Tosello who looked dangerous going forward and his first foray into the opposing circle produced the first goal after 25 minutes. Unlucky to have his deflection off a cross kept out by a good save from the Broxbourne keeper, Tosello picked up the rebound, waited for the keeper to commit himself and expertly flicked the ball in off the near post.

Despite a number of other opportunities, Bar failed to add to this goal in the first half, the closest they came being a shot from Andy Latham which crashed against a post.

In the second half, Broxbourne decided they weren't going to sit back and lose 1-0. As the game opened up, Bar got more opportunities to attack. From a short corner, Ed Newbery's shot was going wide until Owen Hughes laid his stick flush to the ground and deflected the ball in.

Spurred on by this goal, Bar found their stride. Mark Turpin got Bar's third and Newbery smashed in Bar's fourth from close range following an unselfish pull-back from Dave Ensor.

Latham scored Bar's fifth goal from the top of the circle and Andy Stokes finished off the scoring with a neat turn and shot going just inside the post.

Bar could even afford to miss two penalty flicks late in the game. With first choice flick-taker Newbery substituted, Tosello and Ensor unluckily hit opposing posts on their respective flicks.
