Potters Bar recorded their biggest win of the season against the struggling Harpenden 4th XI with a crushing 8-0 victory. Harpenden, now one step closer to the relegation zone, could not keep pace with the game and left too many players unmarked in all areas of the pitch, allowing the Potters Bar midfield and attack to pass the ball at will. Andy Latham was back to hat-trick form with 3 goals before half-time, the third being the result of some very slick one touch passing between 5 or 6 players leaving Latham free to slot the ball past the Harpenden keeper. Earlier, the short corner routine worked for a change to set him up for his first and put Harpenden on the back foot. Harpenden did, however, mount a few attacks early on that caused one or two scares in the PB defence with Alan Field being called upon to make one excellent diving save - but after the third goal it was pretty much one-way traffic for the rest of the first half.

At 3-0 down going into the second half Harpenden looked like a defeated team - they were also now down to 10 men as one of their players had to leave...it was going to be a tough 35 minutes and made worse by conceding a fourth goal in the opening minute of the second half after Andy Latham latched onto a fine pass from Danny Becker from the half way line right down the middle to the top of the D - Latham, with only the keeper to beat made no mistake.

From then on it was a bit of a blur with the only real question being "would anyone else score a goal?" It looked unlikely as Latham notched up his 5th and then 6th mid-way through the half. The captain then decided enough was enough and got one for himself (his first of the season) following some short passing with Chris Edwards at a long corner to create the space on the edge of the D for a shot - there were some comments after the game that the shot was miss-hit...but they all count!

All round it was a very good performance from the Potters Bar team with good movement off the ball and some well worked moves and quick passing. Liam Frame had a couple of near misses as did Chris Edwards, Adam Pigden and Chris Wood - so it could have been more. In the end, with 5 minutes to go Andy Latham recorded his 7th following a defensive blunder by Harpenden - the culprit was heard squeeling loudly as Andy picked the ball up off his stick and slotted it home to make it 8-0 and 3 more points for Bar to maintain their top spot in SW7. Next week it's West Herts who look like they have an improved side so Bar must keep focussed to ensure another victory.
