With confusion over the location and having initially gone to the wrong ground it was a slightly disorganised PB that took to the field on Saturday. Nevertheless, the team soon settled down and worked the ball well at the back and in midfield. The early attacks did not produce any clear goal-scoring opportunities but the continued pressure brought Bar a short corner about 15 minutes in. Yet again the clinical finishing of Andy Latham put PB one up following the slingshot out from Spencer Hunt. The rest of the first half was played largely in midfield with the majority of Adelaide's attacks being snuffed out before the danger area. When the home
side did break through late in the first half they were awarded a short
corner late for a foot in the D. The resulting shot was hit hard and low,
demanding a diving save from Alan Field who showed remarkable athletic
ability for a man of his age! Another notable performance came from Liam Frame who attacked well from his more favoured midfield positioned and demonstrated how to carve open a defence with sheer pace. Several times the ball was whipped across the Adelaide goal but no one could get a stick on the end of the final pass. In the second half Adelaide struggled to clear from their 16, with the Bar midfield often picking off the ball and countering immediately. However, PB couldn't convert their numerous chances although it did mean that the back four had little to do in the second half as the PB midfield closed down the majority of the Adelaide attacking moves well before the D. The pressure from Bar began to tell and resulted in three short corners. For the first two, Spencer Hunt was off the field taking a well earned rest and it showed how important it is to get the ball out accurately and with pace. Both times the Adelaide defence were out quickly and disrupted the shot. With Spencer back on the field for the third, normal service was resumed and it was 2-0 with Latham picking up his second. As the half wore on Adelaide visibly tired and gaps began to open up in midfield. With less than 10 minutes to go Paul Brady broke from within the Bar half and timed his pass perfectly to Andy Latham who shot from the edge of the D, finishing off his fourth hat-trick from seven games. In the final minutes Nick Gregory was rewarded as he showed skill and composure in the D to put the finishing touch to a slick move from midfield as he slipped the ball passed the keeper for Bar's fourth. The three late goals closed the match out in style and although the 4-0 scoreline was flattering the 3 points were well deserved. The win continues the 100% record and keeps Bar at the top of the table.
