W 3-1

Another week...another win! The first half produced some good play (in parts) and also some controversy - but it was Harpenden who capitalised, scoring from a penalty corner opportunity. Shortly after, at the other end, a goal mouth scramble produced a penalty flick and a miss - hit the post! The score remained 1-0.

Shortly after, Potters Bar's pre-match corner practice paid off and Andy Latham slotted it home with a fine strike squeezing inside the left post.

Liam Frame moved up to partner Andy Latham at the front when Nick Gregory came on and the new combination worked well and another penalty corner was awarded - Andy Latham again scoring, this time with a shot just inside the other post. Potters Bar were now in the ascendancy and controlled the ball for much of the remainder of the first half and perhaps should have improved on their 2-1 lead prior to half time.

The second half saw three Potters Bar substitutions with Cliff Hawkins, Terry Mabbett and Toby Seaman replacing Adam Reader, Chris Edwards and Owen Hughes. All three slotted in well and fresh legs (well Toby's anyway - you can hardly call Cliff's and Terry's legs fresh at anytime!) brought renewed attacking options. It did, however, take some time before Bar made it 3-1 - yet again a penalty corner strike inside the post by Latham. By now large gaps were opening up in midfield and both sides pressed hard with Harpenden nearly scoring twice. Liam Frame countered well, making a dashing run from his own "D" down the length of the pitch, passed 3 defenders and shot just wide - most agreed it would have been the goal of the season!

Towards the end it was Potters Bar who controlled the tempo of the game, but although they kept the ball for long periods they were unable to increase the score. The final analysis: an all-together better performance than last week although still not up to the level reached at the end of last season. Potters Bar are one of three sides in SW7 who have maintained a 100% record after week 3.
