Potters Bar continued their recent rise up the table with a narrow win against an under par opposition.

An early start on Saturday saw Potters Bar face a West Herts team who had lost 11-1 the previous week. The start was too early for West Herts' goal keeper whose late arrival delayed the push back. Paul Brady's men took the opportunity to spend some extra time on their warm up drill. Thus, when the match started, Bar looked the more alert team and on their first possession, surged forward towards the West Herts goal. Andy Latham received the ball with his back to goal at the top of the circle and turned, unleashing a shot wide of the keeper to give the Bar the lead. Only 2 minutes were on the clock.

Bar continued to press forward and won plenty of short corners but were unable to capitalise on any of them. West Herts showed fleeting moments of skill and the closest they came to a goal in the first half was when a cross was half stopped by a defender and fell nicely for one of their players. However the ensuing shot was easily saved by Bar's keeper Dave Smith.

In the second period, Paul Brady worked as hard as ever in midfield, having one of his best games of the season. But elsewhere the team was struggling to produce anything special to break down the West Herts defense. Bar again won a number of short corners but couldn't convert them.

West Herts' best chance came when a long ball was left to go out of play by the Bar defender. However, a West Herts player cleverly stole the ball and dribbled into the circle. With only one defender to beat, the midfielder miscontrolled the ball, in the process committing a foul. This was to be West Herts last opportunity and the goal scored on Bar's first attack of the game proved to be the decider.

This week, Bar travel to Bedford to face a resurgent Bedford Town team, knowing a win could move them up to their highest league position this season.
