| RESULT | Won 2-1 |
On a sunny afternoon, Potters Bar entertained West Herts, a team Bar had beaten 1-0 on their previous encounter but, as recent results showed, had improved a lot since then. The first half was dominated by Potters Bar, who drove forward well and broke up many of West Herts moves in West Herts' own half.
Adam Pigden, stepping in as keeper due first-choice David Smith's absence, performed well and made a superb string of saves to keep the ball out at
one point.
Bar took the lead when a shot from Andy Latham just inside the circle beat the advancing goal keeper and a couple of defenders. David Fennell touched the ball in just as it was about to cross the line. More pressure from Bar followed and it wasn't long before they scored again. A nice move lead to Spencer Randon crossing from the right hand bye line and Andy Latham sweeping the ball home.
The second half was a different story as West Herts re-organised their formation during the half-time team talk. Packing their midfield, they were able to outnumber Bar in key areas and had no trouble in getting the ball into Bar's D.
15 minutes after half-time, West Herts made a breakthrough. A ball across the goal found an unmarked player who couldn't miss. Bar now had 20 minutes to hold out. West Herts attacked again and again and the pressure was on.
Ed Newbery's strong clearances downfield were particular useful. On one occasion, an aerial from Newbery left David Fennell one-on-one with the goal keeper but David's shot was saved.
Despite some scares, Potters Bar held out for the win and other results in the division meant they moved up a place to 5th, only two places from a promotion spot.
Next week, Potters Bar entertain Bedford Town in a game they should win starting at 2.30pm at Dame Alice Owens.
