Potters Bar faced local rivals Welwyn Garden City on Saturday and managed a draw despite dominating possession in the second half.

Paul Brady's side started well, with the defense soaking up the Welwyn attacks and the skillful midfield and wings causing the Welwyn defense problems. From Bar's first short corner after 15 minutes, Andy Latham's shot was blocked. But from their second short corner 5 minutes later, Bar scored. Latham passed to Ed Newberry, whose shot was going wide until Owen Hughes, lurking at the far post, deflected the ball into the goal.

Bar then decided to use some of their substitutes and with these players adjusting to their positions, Welwyn started to come back into the match. From a short corner of their own, Welwyn passed the ball around and found a free player 10 yards out. His finish made the score 1-1.

With their pride dented, Bar fought back. They used the wings well and began crossing from the by-line. Welwyn were not dealing with this tactic very well and one of these crosses beat most of the defense and the keeper. David Fennell touched the ball toward the Welwyn goal but unluckily the ball just slipped past the far post.

In the second period, Bar pushed up into the Welwyn half, looking for the winning goal. However, they only had one clear chance which Latham struck wide. Welwyn also had a good chance in the second half but the attacking player mis-hit his shot with only a defender on the line.

Bar's defense was playing well, with some diving tackles from the fast improving Rob Donoghue catching the eye. Despite Bar's greater possession in the second half, they couldn't make a breakthrough and were slightly disappointed with the 1-1 result.

This week Bar face a mid-table West Herts side in Watford, who surprisingly lost 11-1 on Saturday.
