Potters Bar started their match against Cheshunt on Saturday full of confidence after an unbeaten run of 8 games and looking to gain revenge over Cheshunt for a narrow defeat earlier in the season. The Bar midfield were running through the Cheshunt midfield and Tony Sayers' jinking runs in and around the Cheshunt D were causing the away side problems.
After this Cheshunt got back into the game through a defensive error. Andy Stokes was at fault as he tried to pass across his D after breaking up a Cheshunt attack. His mishit pass fell straight to a Cheshunt forward who levelled the score. However, Stokes soon made up for his error as he scored from a short corner, again the second shot following a rebound.
As the game neared half time, Tony Sayers rounded the Cheshunt keeper and shot at goal. A defender scrambling back couldn't get his stick to the ball but it hit his leg on the goal line, resulting in a penalty stroke for Bar. Ed Newbury stepped up having never missed in match conditions. However, this was one of many signs that this was not to be Bar's day as he put his flick wide of the left hand post.
Cheshunt went ahead through a stroke of luck. A free hit from just inside the Bar half was deflected off a Bar stick perfectly into the path of a Cheshunt attacker whose first time shot was too good for the Bar keeper. Bar struggled to find any kind of attacking form in the second half and conceded short corner after short corner to Cheshunt. On the stoke of full time, Bar conceded a fourth goal but it was what Cheshunt deserved.
Next weekend Bar take on divsion leaders Bishops Stortford looking to put Saturday's performance behind them and get back to winning ways.
