A last minute goal by Connor in his first game for the club saves Potters Bar from defeat

On Saturday Potters Bar played host to British Aerospace, the other one club team in East Herts League division 6SW. Bar were without a handful of their regulars but welcomed Connor for his first game for the club.

From the outset, British Aerospace showed confidence on the ball and crisp passing. Two minutes into the game, they found a way through the centre of Bar's defense and tucked the ball under the diving goalkeeper to make the score 1-0.

Bar, who are enjoying a good run of form, were not put off by this early set-back and applied pressure to the British Aerospace defense. Ed Newbery dictated the play from midfield and new-comer Connor found plenty of space to cause British Aerospace problems.

Shortly before half time, an innocuous looking ball into the Aerospace D was latched onto by Adam Pigden. His touch diverted the ball goalward, wrong-footing the keeper in the process. As the ball crossed the goal line, the umpire signalled a long corner. However, some excellent sportsmanship was shown by the Aerospace players who verified that it was a goal, meaning the score was tied at 1 a piece.

The second half started similarly to the first, with the Aerospace midfield passing through the inexperienced Bar midfield and creating chances. Before long an Aerospace midfielder was given plenty of time in Bar's circle and his shot from close range was wide of the Bar keeper to give British Aerospace the lead for the second time.

Again Bar came back into the match, with the pace and trickery of Andy Stokes down the right wing and also Tony, playing his first match for the club, providing a link from the Bar defense into the opposition's D.

As the match neared full-time, Bar won a series of short corners. Eventually, Connor found the ball at his stick and struck the ball goalwards. The shot slid under the keeper for a goal and Bar celebrated in style. Seconds later the final whistle blew and Potters Bar had gained a deserved draw.

This week Potters Bar play host to Shefford and Sandy, a team they beat 3-1 on the opening day of the season. The match is at Dame Alice Owens school and starts at 2.30pm.
