OPPOSITION British Aerospace 1st XI
VENUE Away
DATE 24-03-2007

RESULT Won 3-1

Potters Bar travelled to Stevenage on Saturday to face a rejuvenated British Aerospace team that had not lost in 2007. Both teams were missing a couple of key players - Bar's top goal scorer Andy Latham was out injured and midfield ace Chris Woods had flown off to Asia.

Bar employed an organised warm-up and this worked well as Bar started much the better team. They won most of the 50-50's in midfield through captain Paul Brady and Owen Hughes and passed well through midfield to the front pair. Despite a number of free hits on the edge of the Aerospace circle and a number of short corners, Bar were finding it hard to score, mainly due to some fine saves by the Aerospace goal keeper.

The deadlock was broken after 11 minutes when Owen Hughes shot from just inside the D. The ball rebounded off the keeper's pads and Adam Pigden was on hand to tap the ball in from 2 yards out.

This goal seemed to spur British Aerospace into action as they stepped up their performance. From a short corner, they pushed the ball to an open man on the right and his shot was good enough to beat the keeper and the men on the line.

As half-time approached, Bar regained the upper hand and could have scored on a couple of occasions, though both David Fennell and Paul Brady failed to find the net.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with Bar dominating early. A run down the right wing by Tony Sayers and a pass to Ed Newbury led to Bar's second goal, with Ed's cross finding Adam Pigden to score his second goal of the game at the near post.

British Aerospace again upped their game and became more of a force in midfield. Despite a number of possessions in and around Bar's D, Aerospace couldn't create a goal-scoring chance.

With a minute of the match to go, Bar made the result safe. Following a succession of short corners, Tony Sayers cross was turned in at the far post by Owen Hughes for Bar's third goal of the afternoon.

This Saturday, Bar travel to Southgate Adelaide for their last game of the season. A win could see Bar promoted, depending on other results. The game takes place at Ashmole School, Southgate, starting at 1.30pm.
