A very crisp but sunny day awaited the Bar in the wonderful surroundings of the 'Southbury Leisure Park'. Considering on Friday the numbers were in doubt Bar were once again surprisingly blessed with subs and new faces - welcome Alex and once again Matt (good work Toby). The first half started reasonably comfortably for the Bar, with the oppostion competing well in the midfield but as the half went on, and Bar re-organised, the balance of play lay slightly with PB. Not too many chances however were created until Mr reliable = Andy Latham found the net with a superb strike from one PB's few short corners. It was great to see the new boys getting involved and all featured well - and I am sure will improve if they continue to play. It is worth bearing in mind that according to our esteemed skipper Woodsy, over 30 people have played for us this season. This would normally indicate that we have a weak team situation - and in some ways this is true but on balance seeing so many new faces has been really positive and with a bit of luck and determination all of those who wish to may get a fuller game in a second XI next season. However, back to the game and having gone ahead Bar were still in a game with WH mainly attacking on the break without a great deal of sustained pressure, and 5 minutes or so before half time Bar conceded a well taken goal to make it 1-1 and this how the frst half score remained. Cue the second half
and see PB's complete dominance for at least the first 15-20 minutes.
First to the tackle, firmer in the challenge WH didn't have a look in.
Messrs Wood, Brady and Owen Hughes were the main architects for this although
they were ably assisted by several others (author included?). Although PB's stranglehold over the game lessened slightly in the latter stages there were still further half chances being created. WH were awarded a number of short corners towards the end of the match and indeed could have nicked the 3 points - undeservedly - especially with a flick that nearly took Shag's' head off and narrowly missed both his nose and the post. And so it ended -
1-1 and PB had to make do with the draw - but nonetheless well done to
all - not forgetting our debutant 'keeper - wigwam - Bullen who performed
really well for a 'virgin'. Team: Paul Bullen, Chris Edwards, Cliff Hawkins, Dave Frame, Toby Seaman, Chris Wood (Capt.), Paul Brady, Owen Hughes, David Fennell, Adam Pigden, Andy Latham, Matt Williams, Alex PB Umpire: Alan Field
