Match Report
by Chris Edwards: From the start Bar set the pace of this game and our midfield stepped up to the plate. In particular Chris Wood had an exceptional first half (and it was no surprise when he slowed down in the second half - extremely difficult to maintain that level of workrate!) However, it was completely against the run of play when BA took the lead with a well created and taken goal from 'No22' - far and away their best player. Despite this reverse Bar kept the pace high and were rewarded with a lead prior to half time by virtue of 2 goals from our mercurial striker - Andy Latham - mind you how many he might have scored on another day is almost incalculable! Coming out for the second half, Bar bossed again for the most part and were well worth the third goal to take them further into the lead when Mr Latham (who else?) popped up to skilfully lift the ball over the keeper from an impossibly acute angle when his ground route was blocked. Unfortunately Bar did not score the further goals that their territorial advantage merited, and when teams do NOT press home their advantage they cannot be surprised when the oppostion come back at them. Bar nearly paid for their hubris when 'no22' scored again from a short corner following a fortunate rebound from what was initially a super save from Alan Field to make it 3-2. Bar managed to complete the match without too many further scares and eventually put the first points of the season on the board. Take this on
board boys, and learn - others apart from Andy Latham need to score -
and we need to protect our goal form the midfield as far as possible NOTABLES (other
than previously mentioned) : Paul Brady (as ever) 'Young' ------------------------------------------ Team: Alan Field, Richard Atkins, Spencer Hunt, Chris Edwards, Toby Seaman, Owen Hughes, Chris Wood (Capt), Paul Brady, Daniel Adams, Danny Becker, Andy Latham, Andy Bye ------------------------------------------- |
