W 4-1

Andy Latham (3), Paul Brady

On a sunny day in January, Bar welcomed back a couple of players (Spencer Randon and David Fennel) and new comer Paul Bullen. There was also the friendly face of injured keeper Alan Field present, who had turned up to watch and lend his support. All this seemed to give Bar a lift and they started the match very strongly.

On one of Bar's first attacks they signalled their intent, a shot from Andy Latham hitting the post. Then, only 5 minutes into the game, the ball was won just outside the D by Owen Hughes who passed to Andy Latham just inside the Rickmansworth circle. Andy's turn and quick shot was too good for the Rickmansworth defence and goal keeper and it was 1 - 0 to Potters Bar. Shortly afterwards, Bar won a free hit just inside the 25. Danny Becker hit the ball into the D. A Rickmansworth defender made a hash of stopping the ball and it trickled through to Andy Latham who wasn't going to miss from 2 yards out. The howl of frustration from the defender who failed to stop the ball was a pleasant noise to Bar's ears. It was all one-way traffic at this stage and debutant Paul Bullen set up the next goal. His pass from the left wing to the now rampant Andy Latham resulted in Andy beating 2 or 3 defenders before lifting the ball over the prostrate keeper for a magnificent goal. 3 - 0 to Potters Bar.

Bar weren't being put under much pressure and with a strong formation, dominated midfield. The fourth goal came with some short passes between Paul Brady and Andy Latham resulting in Paul driving the ball into the left side of the D. He took it to the bye line then, just as it seemed he was boxed in, he managed to find space to deliver a cross-come-shot that went in the far corner of the goal. 4 - 0 to Bar.

With a comfortable lead, captain Chris Wood was able to rotate the squad and give some of the youngsters a run out. David Fennell played well and found plenty of space down the right wing in the second half.

Rickmansworth did play better in the second half and made some inroads down Bar's left flank. About half way through the second half, Rickmansworth won a penalty corner. The injection wasn't stopped initially, but when it was, it was taken into the circle and a cross-cum-shot found an unmarked player at the far post who turned the ball home.

As Rickmansworth pushed up to try and get something out of the match, Paul Brady and Danny Becker found space in the middle of park and orchestrated plenty of attacks. However, there was only one more chance in the dying minutes, which was well saved by the outstretched boot of the Rickmansworth keeper.

A fine performance by Bar, who won the game 4 - 1.
