Fielding another weakened side, again through the usual combination of injuries, holidays, family and work commitments, Potters Bar started with just 10 men on the field. Despite tenacious defending Bar were unable to keep Letchworth out and 2 goals were conceded in the first 20 minutes. Following Andy Bye's arrival Bar were up to full strength and now able to get into the match. However, Letchworth made their superiority show and controlled the ball for much of the remainder of the first half. With several chances on goal it was only the fine saves from Alan Field in goal and the strong defence that kept the scoreline to 2-0 at half time.

The second half saw Bar defending deep and also failing to break with sufficient numbers to make any real impact on the Letchworth defence. Too often, players were isolated with very few options and it meant that most attacks were thwarted before the Letchworth goal was threatened. Letchworth were by far the more experienced and stronger side and continued to pressurise the Potters Bar goal through well crafted moves with some slick passing. Midway through the second half, following several penalty corners, this pressure finally told when they slotted home their third to make it 3-0. Bar never gave up though and competed strongly right to the end and there are plenty of positives to take from the day.

There were some strong performances - notably Owen Hughes and Toby Seaman in the midfield, as well as Cliff Hawkins in defence. Saturday also saw the welcome return of Dave Frame who, after a year out, was striking the ball remarkably well. Special mention should be made of David Fennell who, at the ripe old age of 13 and playing in his very first game of hockey, put in a very creditable performance showing strong commitment in both tackling and marking his opposite number. Daniel Adams, now a seasoned campaigner with 3 games under his belt, also continued to show promise and made some good runs down the right side.

And so to next Saturday - we are away to British Aerospace in Stevenage at 3.30pm - they've had one win and two losses so far this season! It's time to stop the rot and get a win of our own under our belts!
