W 2-0

Andy Latham, Adam Pigden

Following a 5-0 victory in the previous fixture, Potters Bar were expecting another easy match against a side below them in the league. However, from the pushback, it was clear that this would be a much tougher match. Winchmore Hill and Enfield were well organised in midfield and were strong in the tackle in defence. They put Potters Bar under pressure early on.

On a rare foray into the Winchmore Hill & Enfield half, Bar won a hit on the 25m line. Paul Brady hit the ball into the Winchmore Hill D and Andy Latham controlled the ball, swivelled and then shot into the left hand corner of the goal. 1-0 to Potters Bar, against the run of play. This seemed to deflate WH & E and about 5 minutes later, Bar made another breakthrough. Winchmore took a 16m hit and passed across their back line. They didn't clear the ball quickly enough and Owen Hughes intercepted a pass before running into the D and attempting a shot on goal. His rather weak flick seemed harmless, but as the goal keeper let the ball hit his pads, Adam Pigden was the first to react and slotted the rebound home to give Bar a 2-0 lead.

After half time, Winchmore Hill became more aggressive and mounted attack after attack. They won many short corners, but in their haste to get back into the game, they miscontrolled the injection on many occasions, wasting valuable opportunities to score. Richard Atkins and Chris Wood provided good outlets for Bar to relieve the pressure and mount counter attacks of their own. Alan Field also pulled of a couple of outstanding saves to keep the Winchmore Hill attack from scoring.

At the final whistle, Potters Bar were please and somewhat lucky to come out of the match with the three points. Winchmore Hill & Enfield were left ruing their lack of potency in attack which left them unable to capitalise on their superior possession and territorial advantage. Final score Potters Bar 2 - Winchmore Hill & Enfield 3rdXI 0.
