Match Report by Chris Edwards...

Another dry and sunny day awaited the visit of the league leaders Broxbourne to face a very inexperienced Bar side waiting with trepidation but not a little 'spunk'.

The first half started as indeed the entire match went on with Broxbourne in control. Dominating the midfield and using the wings especially well Brox won a short corner early on, and despite a clearance managed to take the lead.

Considering this early setback Bar responded well and showed resilience against an extremely skilful and strong side. Although Bar competed the lack of experience told and opportunities for any sustained possession or chances were few and far between, although a number of short corners were won.

Surprisingly however, it was Bar that scored the next goal and to some extent this was just reward for their efforts with Paul Brady responding to a 16 hit received with a 'route 1' direction (energy saving) run linking with Andy Latham and back to Paul eventually flicking over the keeper - well done PB.

Unfortunately, despite a certain amount of controversy over a lifted pass from Brox they took advantage to go 2-1 ahead - please take note and PLAY TO THE WHISTLE (we are ALL inclined not to sometimes). the scoreline remained that way until half time with Bar defending somewhat desperately at times.

The second half continued much in the same vein although to Bars' credit Brox decided to attack with less cohesion and more individual skills. It is worth bearing in mind at this point that all the new players - Matt , Howard, Dave and Richard - performed very well and their improvement was palpable for all to see - well done all - we should be champions next year at this rate!

However Brox' third goal was again slightly dubious as it involved the scorer backing into both Cliff and Dave before turning to score. It is though fair to say that Brox deserved a fourth goal and the eventual scoreline was about right.

Despite this setback I think it is worth remembering that considering the side that was put out a great number of posiitives were seen from the effort of all and perfomances of newer players, and you can certain that Brox have a good number of much easier games this season.
