After the "magnificent" effort the previous week, an increased squad turned out for this game against British Aerospace, so the Bar supporter may have expected a better result from this game. It soon transpired that British Aerospace's team were much stronger this time than in the first half of the season and Bar had to put in a large amount of effort in the midfield to keep the skillful BAE midfield at bay. This they did manage though and, despite conceding a number of short corners, Bar kept BAE at bay for most of the first half. It was only when a short corner just before the break resulted in a loose ball in the box and two BAE players hacking at keeper Seaman who had stopped the ball several times that they managed to bundle the ball into the Bar goal. This gave BAE the 1-0 half-time advantage. In the second half, with Owen Hughes relieved from his first-half umpiring duty, the Bar left side was somewhat stronger than in the first half. As Adam Pigden took over the umpiring, gaps appeared elsewhere and BAE's midfield gained in confidence - taking every opportunity to run with the ball. An unfortunate deflection from a short corner just after the restart put Bar 2-0 behind. With two key players about to leave the field to go and watch the six-nations rugby, things were looking bad at that point. After the departure of said two players, the remaining Bar squad kept BAE at bay for the next 10-15 minutes, but eventually the pressure told and three goals in quick succession put the result beyond doubt. A final goal in the last minute left the score at 6:0 - the worst faring by Bar in living memory. There were some positives to take away from this. The rotating goalkeeper position was filled by Toby Seaman. He was given plenty of practice and made a number of very good saves. There were a number of foraying runs into the BAE half by David Fennell in which he displayed pace and good ball skills. Bar did make a number of half chances and could have sneaked a goal or two (though maybe not six). ------------------------------------ Team: Toby Seaman, Cliff Hawkins, Dave Frame, Terry Mabbutt, Spencer Randon, Chris Edwards, Chris Wood (Captain), Paul Brady, Owen Hughes, David Fennell, Andy Latham, Adam Pigden, Paul Bullen -------------------------------------- . |
