As little as 3 seasons ago the club (which only reformed in 2001 and did not join the South West Hockey League until the 2003/4 season) was struggling to field even one team and finished that 2005/6 season only just above the relegation places in the South West Division 6. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength and has expanded rapidly. The 2008/9 season has seen the following:
The First XI, following promotion last year as Champions of Division 6, have this season just been crowned Champions of NE14HOCKEY East League Division 5 South West, with 2 games remaining. In fact the team won their opening 16 games of the season and a couple of recent defeats have been more attributable to strengthened opposition sides, rather than any lack of effort by an already promoted side. This team has been well led by skipper Paul Brady and vice captain Owen Hughes with some amazing goal scoring feats from Mark Turpin (40 goals from 19 games) and Andy Latham (25 goals from 16 games).
A second XI was only started up last season, and following an inaugural season winning the South West Division 9, this Saturday, in their final game of the season, they clinched promotion from NE14HOCKEY East League Division 8 South West by convincingly beating Winchmore Hill & Enfield V by 7 goals to 1, with 4 goals for Tony Sayers and 3 for Andy Stokes. Barring some unlikely scores for second placed Welwyn Garden City IV, the side will have secured their second successive Championship, under the leadership of captain Chris Edwards.
With so many new players joining the club during 2008, a Third XI was started up this season, and under the ever encouraging guidance of captain Steve Walters, the side is only just going to miss out on promotion, having been desperately unlucky to lose a vital game two weeks ago to promotion rivals Shefford & Sandy IV. The side has fulfilled all of their fixtures and performed well above expectations, whilst introducing a number of young players to the side, following the commencement of coaching sessions at Dame Alice Owens School, under the leadership of vice captain Peter Simmons.
